Diamantstad, modehoofdstad en thuishaven van Rubens. Veel ruwer en levendiger dan Brugge, voor wie houdt van stedentrips waar ook lokale mensen wonen.
De hoogste kerktoren van de Lage Landen (123 meter) en vier originele Rubens-altaarstukken. De Verheffing van het Kruis is wat ons betreft het sterkste werk dat je er ziet. Klimmen kan niet meer, maar de binnenkant alleen al is grandioos.
Modern havenmuseum met een vrij toegankelijk dakterras op de tiende verdieping, beste uitzicht over de stad. Eromheen het Eilandje, voorheen verlaten dokken, nu vol bars en restaurants. Vooral 's avonds levendig.
In de Nationalestraat. Niet kopen, gewoon binnenlopen — het pand uit 1881 is op zich al de moeite waard. Antwerpen heeft een van de grootste mode-academies van Europa, je ziet veel net-afgestudeerden in de wijk.
Voormalig pomphuis uit 1920, omgebouwd tot brasserie met dertig meter hoge plafonds. Specialiteit: mosselen in alle bereidingen, vanaf augustus tot maart. Een tafel bij het raam met zicht op het Albertkanaal is de moeite waard om vooraf vast te leggen.

Travelled in May 2026, 3 nights, couple. Arrived on a Tuesday — the Antwerp package ran like clockwork. Three relaxed days around the city, no crowds. Hotel was tidy, coffee in the room was instant. Midweek value was genuinely good. Recommended if you like to travel at a quiet pace.

Travelled in April 2026, 2 nights, girls' trip. Four of us off to Antwerp, package booked via Favotrip. The Plantin-Moretus museum stayed with us, MAS tower for the views. Hotel was central, everything within walking distance. Parking pricier than expected. We'll be back next year.

Travelled in March 2026, 3 nights, family. Booked the Antwerp package for the whole family (8 and 11). The family room with bunk bed made a real difference. Climbed the cathedral, shopping on the Meir. TV remote only half-worked. Great having everything in one booking — just hop in the car and go. We'll definitely be back.

Travelled in February 2026, 2 nights, couple. Booked the Antwerp package through Favotrip — hotel and transport done in one go. The Cathedral of Our Lady was impressive, then the Plantin-Moretus museum once it started raining. Mattress creaked a bit. Recommended for a tidy weekend trip close to home.

Oudste drukkerij ter wereld die nog op de originele plek staat, Unesco-erfgoed sinds 2005. Reken op een uur door het pand en nog een uur in de gerestaureerde tuinen erachter. Op maandag gesloten.
Klassieke staminée op de Grote Markt, sinds 1840 vrijwel onveranderd. Bestel een 'bolleke', bolvormig glas De Koninck, het lokale bier dat alleen hier in zo'n glas wordt geschonken. Cash bij de hand houden voor laat op de avond.
